At the start of this week Julinka mentioned to me that her friend Lisa was looking for an intern at her print company CocoBloom. Julinka knew that my specialism at Chelsea was print so she was very keen for me to get in touch with Lisa and introduce myself.
Thankfully Julinka had put in a good word for me bless her and with my newly updated CV Lisa asked me straight away when I could start! This was great because although I had adored Story I was keen to find somewhere else that I would have enough time to be able to get a great experience from. Also something that was very beneficial for me was the fact that CocoBloom used a lot of the same systems that Story did because they were very close friends that had helped each other throughout their time building their businesses. This would hopefully mean I would be able slip straight into a helpful administrative role for Lisa straight away. I would start this internship at the end of March so I only had a few weeks left with Story.
Julinka was still very conscious of the more natural designs and I was very conscious that I didn’t have long left at Story so I was very motivated to start churning out some more designs nice and quickly so that I had as much I could to show for myself and my time in the internship. I started straight away on some nice and simple cami designs. The first of which was a floral placement cami that would have wooden beads running throughout the background. The next was a leaf design that used varying sized beads to create an interesting and textural leaf embellishment. The final (and probably my favourite) was a conversation lion’s head. This was something me and Julinka had been talking about for a few weeks now and toying with the idea after the success of one of Rachel’s Zebra head designs. This was going to be made up of lot of different appliqued fabric for the mane and embroidery for the facial details.

I was quite happy that I managed to get three designs done this week as I had never done that many before. I think that Julinka realised that I really wanted to focus my final weeks here on designing as that was my favourite part of the process within the company. I was very grateful for this. It was also perhaps because she knew that we had another new intern starting the following week and she was keen for me to teach her the ropes when she arrived.
