Having spent the previous week starting to work on designs for Story I had started to get the buzz for it. Myself and Julinka started to brain storm ideas for what she was needing for the collection and what was exciting us at the time after looking into the most recent shows.
We did a few charity shop runs this week so that we could find interesting and vintage pieces that we could work into with embellishments.

There were a few themed pieces that Julinka was keen on getting into production, including a firework, snowflake and animal prints. She let me take lead on these this week.
We used some of the garments we had collected from the charity shop for the base of the snowflake and the firework. Because these designs were so specific I found them quite easy to follow and to make come to life on the paper.

The most exciting part of these particular designs was getting to pick the specific beads that would be used to bring the designs to life. I really enjoyed getting to control this level of detail with my work and I really felt like I was being given a lot of creative leeway with these designs.

The animal print design we decided to make using some scraps of fabric that the artiliers would stitch together to create a patchwork base fabric. Having for-filled the briefs Julinka had set me with the previous designs, I was given a bit less of a guided approach with this final design and I felt as though it was left up to me a bit more with the full design. I used a lot of inspiration that I had been seeing when I had been looking into different techniques on pinterest for embellishment techniques. I was keen for this to look very cool and different from up close, but then when you were to look a bit closer you would be able to see the level of detail that was going into the animal print within the beads themselves.

All of these designs gave me a lot more of a sense of how Story writes up their drawn out designs so that the artiliers understand the exact outcome that the in-house designs are looking for. I learnt where they need to be given specific detail in some areas and how they can be given a bit of creative freedom in others that often marry up to make the best possible outcome for the embellished designs.
