Story Designs Week 8

This week I was really starting to feel like I was getting to grips with the company and all of the tasks. I was starting to focus on lots of different things at the same time and getting better at previous tasks that I had been tackling like placing designs on garments and uploading designs to the website. So all of these different things were running alongside slightly more exciting things like appointments and designing.

This week we had a zoom appointment with an American fashion brand. They were looking for very different seasons to that of the British companies we had seen previously. I got into a conversation with Julinka about this where she explained that the US tend to work very far in advance in comparison to the UK and Europe. This means they are often looking into different seasons than us. This was quite interesting to get a bit more of an international take on how the industry works. We also spoke about because this is the case Story has to have a wide range of seasonal samples available all the time so that it can cater to all of its clients working in completely different seasons. So, although Story designs loosely around the seasons, it’s always working towards new designs in every part of the collection. This was goof to find out about a small company and how you have to always be ahead of the game.

After the meeting we made a pinboard on the website with all of the pulls that the company had chosen. This was interesting to see how internationally the taste changes. Julinka says she tries to cater to this when she is putting together the samples that she is showing to American companies. I feel like this is valuable information that I wouldn’t have found out about unless it was first hand in a company like Story.

As well as the sales appointments, I was working on a few more designs. We had found some really nice knitwear pieces from the vintage shop that we were keen to stitch into with really big chunky stitches. This was something we had been seeing in the shows and was something that we thought would be nice and quick to achieve.
