My time at Story always seemed to be passing by so fast! And the fact that this week we were starting to work on a little Christmas gift for all of the clients just emphasised this even more for me! I had really been enjoying my time at Story, im not sure it was quite what I was expecting but I was loving every minute nevertheless. This element of the industry was really something I could see myself getting into. I think I was really thriving off of the small business element and the fact that I was getting to see every element of the whole company. As a person I think I am a bit more of a ‘jack of all trades’ kind of person rather than someone that really likes to work on and excel in one area in particular. So this kind of experience I was getting was really valuable to me. Obviously I had my highlights like the designing and the sales meetings which were probably my two favourite elements all in all, but I was still really enjoying everything I was doing.
Back to this week, we started to work on a gift to give out to clients as a ‘christmas present’. I thought this was a really cute idea and it just pushed the idea of being a personable and approachable company that people would want to give work to and buy from. Me and Julinka got thinking about what we could make. Previously she had sent out sleepmasks to her close clients so we wanted to do something a bit different from this and something that was perhaps a bit more ‘christmassy’ that also embraced some Indian elements so that the artiliers that make the designs could be represented to the clients.
We found some gorgeous Indian block prints that had been hand printed out in Dehli. We started thinking what we could do with them. We thought that perhaps we could make some sort of bunting or hanging for people’s houses and Christmas trees. Once we decided this we got really hands on and started playing around with the fabric ourselves coming up with different little designs that could make up this garland.
I liked how hands on we were being with the actual materials rather than just putting pen to paper like we had been doing with the other designs.

In the end we ended up coming up with this beautifully colourful garland made from the Indian block print to make some hand-made tassles. I really loved this and thought it was so sweet.

We collected all the materials and wrote up the design to send to India. And Julinka gifted one of the garlands to me so I got it hung up in my bedroom straight away!
